3 ways to become more eco friendly | kitchen

With the truly terrifying recent claim that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050, many people are looking for ways to reduce their plastic consumption, and be a bit more environmentally friendly in general.

Here are 3 easy ways to do just that, by making small changes in your kitchen.

GET LOOSE
Buying loose fruit and vegetables is one of the simplest ways to reduce the amount of plastic you use. Avoid pre-packaged whenever you can and as well as reducing your plastic, you’ll probably save a few pence too as loose fruit and veg can be cheaper. Remember to bring your own reusable bags!

SCRUBBING
Do you find yourself getting through loads of those grubby little washing up sponges? They go straight in the bin when they’re looking a bit worn. It’s habit, isn’t it? We always used washing up sponges, but have switched to washable cloths and we’re trying a silicone scrubber.

RECYCLE
Seems obvious, but not everyone recycles. Which in this day and age seems unfathomable. Check your local council for what they can/can’t recycle and you may be surprised.

SWAP PLASTIC FOR GLASS
Have a look at the jars in your cupboards, and look for a glass alternative. Glass can be recycled a lot easier than plastic can.
