Behind the Mask

Behind the Mask

Face masks – now mandatory on public transport and in shops – have quite quickly morphed from a ‘really-should-have’ bore to a ‘must-have’ fashion item. And they aren’t all bland and boring; there’s no need for planet-compromising disposable masks when you can now purchase stylish, reusable versions that match your outfit. Here’s our pick of a few of the best from UK-based Etsy sellers. Please note that Etsy masks are not medical grade, and no seller of masks is allowed to make medical or health claims.

This UK-based seller not only sells a selection of masks in lovely patterns, including rainbow, animal print and polka dot, they also sell cute little bags to keep them in. The masks are made with stretchy cotton-feel fabric, are washable at 60C, and prices start at £2.99 for a bag, with masks costing £6.99.

Karavan Krafts

Not digging the leopard print or rainbow patterns? Never fear, tie-dye is here! Karavan Krafts’ masks are two-layer, 100% cotton and available in a range of tie-dye colours. If you can’t make up your mind, that’s ok; you can get a pack of five for a bargain price of £19.99, or £5.99 each if purchased separately. The only drawback is that these masks are handwash only – you can’t pop them in the washing machine due to the dying process.

Looking for something functional, rather than fancy? Tweepsy’s got your back (well, your face anyway) with its plain, understated, range of masks. These 100% cotton street-wear masks come in orange, grey, white, black, olive, and bottle green, and prices range from £5.99 to £8.99.

Everybody wants to be more mermaid, don’t they? In which case, head over to Sophie Fern Studio on Etsy, who is selling the most beautiful mermaid scales masks. Available in both adult and child sizes, this seven-layer jersey mask could be yours for £16.59.

We don’t want to get you too excited, but SEQUINS! Sparkle like a queen with this eye-catching mask – the perfect way to stand out from the crowd. Choose from four sizes and a selection of colours (or get more than one – we shouldn’t be forced to choose between gold sequins and purple sequins). Each Jago Maker mask has a foam centre for added comfort and costs £12.50.
